Coin Information:
War Nickels
These were produced from 1942 to 1945 because nickel was needed for the war. Production of these nickels began mid 1942 so to determine if a 1942 nickel contains silver look for the large mint mark above the dome. Nickels of all other dates do not contain silver.
Dimes and Quarters
Silver dimes and quarters were produced until 1964.
Halves
Half dollars were composed of 90% silver until 1964. From 1965 to 1970 they were composed of 40% silver.
Dollars
Morgan and Peace dollars contain 90% silver. Eisenhower dollars with an "S" mint mark are 40% silver, all other Eisenhower and later dollar coins do not contain silver.
