January

by Bill Baker

Hi everybody, nice seeing you again. It was a soggy day at Kenilwotrh park and Grout School, but that didn't stop about 30 of us from searching for stuff. There were some nice fins, to include 24 wheatback pennies..the oldest 1914. Todd Mullican had a silver quarter and a Rosie, I had a silver quarter and a Merc., Mike Nanson had a Merc. and two buffalos and a "V" nickel. There were some interesting jewelry pieces found too. Not a lot of coins overall, but we all had a good time. At count-out we had 21 hunters left. Our club participation drawing was won by Mike Nanson.

A large group of hunters showed up to enjoy our hobby. The finds of the day were Jon Becker's gold Notre Dame ring dated 1963. Great Find! One of our newest members, Richard Rath, Found a gold ring circled with diamonds. Nice!! Clarence Sparks found a 1906 Indian Head penny that someone lost as a necklace. Cool!! There were 4 silver dimes found. Dick Gaboury found a '37 merc and Mike Nanson, Todd Mullican and myself each found a silver rosey. All in all it was a good day and everybody found something. by Bill Baker

Hi everybody...nice seeing you again. Our March club outing was at Kenton park. As much as I tried, I couldn't turn off the rain. It didn't let up at all. We had a hard time counting out at the end because my pencil quit working. The rain didn't stop some good finds though. Steve Tucker found a gold ring, Ron Rathbun found a silver ring, Jerry Harris found a 35 merc dime, Ken Harris and Tom Smith each found a 59 rosey dime. Tom had the oldest coin with a 20 wheatie. I gave everybody a silver dime for putting up with the weather. Bryon Tolle won the shiney morgan dollar for the membership drawing.

May

by Bill Baker

Hi everybody, nice seeing you again. Our May club outing was at Marshall high school and Lents park. We didn't get wet and as usual everybody had a great time. Depending on where you decided to hunt and how lucky you were determined the outcome. There were only 2 wheat pennies found and no silver. It's getting pretty picked over at these sites anymore..but we'll keep trying to find that diamond ring, etc. The membership drawing winner was Ron Rathbun. Congrats to all who participated.

June

by Bill Baker

Hi everybody...nice seeing you again. We went to John Luby park and Russell school for our June monthly outing. Everybody had a good time and found something. Since it was the day before the 4th of July, I gave anybody that found an item with either red, white or blue on it, a silver dime. I think everybody got one. The weather was perfect for a hunt. There was one silver dime found by Dick Gaboury. The center of it was cut out but still counted as silver. Check it out at the meeting. Dick also donated 5 barber dimes that we drew names for. Thanks Dick! Jim Ward found the oldest coin with a 24 wheat penny. Membership drawing lucky winner was Doyle Thiebert for a shiney morgan dollar.

Not too many old coins, just a few wheat pennies in the 40's and a 37 found by Steve Tucker.Find of the day honor goes to Clarence Sparks. He found an engagement ring and an hour later found the diamond wedding ring that went with it. What a LUCKY DOG!! He's good at this too which helps. Doug Hoblitt found a silver ring. Steve Tucker donated a nice prize to be given as a 2nd membership drawing. Thanks Steve! George and Bev Parker were the lucky winners. Bev won the 1st draw and George won the 2nd. October

by Bill Baker

Hi everybody. Nice seeing you again. Our October outing was an interesting one. We had 3 sites we could hunt, all within a few blocks of each other. Powell park, Cleveland high school and the high school track and football field area. Powell park proved to be the site for the older finds. Mike Nanson found 2 V nickels, an old merc dime and 21 wheat pennies there. Cleveland high school was full of pennies...lots of pennies. The football/track field had the most change and other countable items. Robert Zbinden found $6.65 and a silver ring there. Mary Sparks found a silver ring too. Our membership drawing winner, for the 2nd month in a row, was Bev Parker. Congrats to all who participated.

November

by Bill Baker

Hi everybody...nice seeing you again. We got real lucky in the weather department for our November club hunt. It didn't rain on us and the sun actually came out for awhile. We went to West Moreland park. There were a few good finds. Robert Zbinden found a nice 1917 quarter and a rosey. Mike Young found 2 roseys. Scott Stevanus found a 1916 merc. Clarence Sparks and myself each found buffalo nickels. I found a ring that I ended up losing the next day. I guess it just didn't want to be found? Everybody had a good time and I bet there's still some good finds still there. This will be my last hunt as the chairman so everybody show up and appreciate our hobby and our club. I've enjoyed doing this for you all and I hope you have some good memories of our hunts. Mike Nanson will be taking over next year and he promises some good hunt sites for us, so...give him the same support you have given me.

December

by Bill Baker

OK...Here it is. Hi everybody, nice seeing you again. BRRRRR...that's all I can say about our December club outing. It was 27 degrees and I didn't expect to see anybody show up, but I was suprised when I got to McDonald's to see 14 bundled up hunters. We went to Holladay Park and tried to dig. It was almost impossible to get the shovel into the ground. The wind finally drove us out of there earlier then normal but we did have a count out and there were some coins and other items found. Dick Gaboury donated a nice Morgan dollar to whoever had the most trash. It was a close race but Dan Webb took the honor with 52 trash items. Dan also won the membership drawing for another Morgan dollar. Thank you all for your support in 2005. I had a good time running the hunts for you. Next year Mike Nanson has volunteered to take over the duties and I'm sure he will do a great job at finding us some good places to hunt. Peace to you all. Bill Baker
