2010 Club Hunts
January
Hi everybody...nice seeing you again. Our January outing was at Irving park in NE Portland. It was a wet, muddy mess out there but it didn't stop us from finding some good finds. There were some silver rings, and some old wheatback pennies, some cool toy items, etc. The illusive silver coins were just that. No gold either. Oh well. Maybe we just didn't walk in the right spot. The top hunters for the day were:
1st place James Lyons 113 pts
2nd place Brian Lundquist 106 pts
3rd place Dick Gaboury 95 pts
4th place Richard Shellhammer 93 pts
5th place Todd White 90 pts
6th place Larry Williams 78 pts.
Memberships drawing winner for the Barber half was Brent Cousins. Congrats to all that hunted.
Our February club hunt will be on Sunday, Feb. 28th. We will be meeting at the McDonald's located at 1831 West Burnside. We will gather around 7AM and leave for the hunt site promptly at 8. Hope to see you all there.
There's been some concern regarding restrooms at our hunt locations. Unfortunately the Portland parks people lock them and turn the water off to prevent frozen pipes and other problems that they foresee. I'm sorry but we have no control over any of that. Maybe that 2nd or 3rd cup of coffee isn't that great of an idea in this situation.

There were 3 silver coins found. Ron Spada got a rosey, Don Spillman got a merc, and Dick Gaboury got a silver Canadian dime. There were some wheat pennies found as well as some silver jewelry items. All in all, it was a good hunt. The results were:

March
Hi everybody. Nice seeing you again. Our March outing was held at Commonwealth park near Cedar Hills. Cedar hills park was also included if anybody wanted to hunt there. It was a nice day, one of the few lately, and everybody found something. We hid 10 silver nickels and 3 tokens. I think only 3 of the nickels were found and 2 of the tokens. There was no silver coins found. James Lyons got 2 rings..one of them gold!!! There was some silver jewelry found. Larry Williams and Lloyd Hurt each found a silver ring. Bill Bogynska found a nice silver bracelet. Dick Gaboury cleaned up in the points by finding 39 fishing related items. Dick also donated 2 barber dimes and we gave one of them to Larry Williams for most coins dug and the other went to Mike Maxon for most fishing items. The find of the day was a toss up between Charles Davis's big honkin' devil cult ring and Mike Maxon's bud light beer cap made into a fishing lure. The top hunters were:
!st place Dick Gaboury 249 pts
2nd place James Lyons 125 pts
3rd place Larry Williams 115 pts

July
Hi everybody. Nice seeing you again. Our July club hunt took place in Vancouver at the Hudson bay high and surrounding parks. A record number of members showed up and it turned out to be a real good hunt. First of all, the McDonald's that we were meeting at burned down a few days before our hunt. But since we love a challenge we passed the paperwork thru open windows on the back street. Everybody found their way to the hunt site and everybody found something. Don Lieurance found the oldest coin with a 1891 Indian head penny! George Parker dug a 43 Washington quarter! Tom Severnson got a 41 merc! There were quite a few wheat pennies found. Also some neat artifacts and jewelry were found. We found quite a few old bullets that dated back to the civil war era. We took out almost 10 lbs of trash. Top hunters for the day were:
1st place Todd White 113 pts
2nd place George Parker 103 pts
3rd place Don Lieurance 100 pts
4th place Aaron Lange 99 pts
5th place Brian Kinnear 89 pts
6th place Dick Gaboury 86 pts
The membership drawing was lucky for Harold Cawthorn who won the Silver half!!! Bill Trautz won the barber dime Dick donated! Thanks Dick. And thanks to all who participated.
Our August hunt will be on Sunday, Aug. 29th. We will be meeting at the McDonald's located at 10050 SW Barber Blvd. We'll be getting there around 7AM and leave for the hunt site at 8. Count out will be at noon. See you there.
A reminder: Those of you who leave early from our meeting spot for the hunt site are required to wait until Dick and Bill get there before you start hunting. Thanks in advance.
